Praetorian Bromhead Leman Russ

My Praetorian Leman Russ is finally finished. This is the Bromhead pattern closely based on the Ragnarok. Quite happy with the final result, there's things I'd like to have done if I could freehand but I wanted to get a coherent solid finish across this army. Have a shufties:

Pretty damned huge. But I like that about it, proper shock and awe stuff. Army is coming along now!

Detailing

This hasn't moved for a while but wanted to add the latest pictures. The detailing has started, I've done the front, most of one side, all the turret and start the back. I've also created the dozer blade, though it's not attached yet.

Really does have the wall of metal look though, as you can see from the front photo. Rather happy with that aspect.

Detailing

The turret is pretty much done. There’s a searchlight and stubber to go on there, but not until painting is done. I also need to detail the commander, but I’m undecided on what headgear he should be waiting. I was edging away from pith helmet, but then I saw Col. Gravis’s leman russ commander and he looks awesome, so who knows.

I had to include the lasgun on the back though, surely that’s obligatory.

The hull detailing has started at the front. Quite happy with that, though most of it will be hidden behind a monster of a dozer blade. Prodded around the rear, but not making huge progress yet.

Also started on the sponsons. I reckon if the track arced down onto the top of the lower road wheels you could just about fit a man in the sponsons. Fortunately the side skirts hide a multitude of sins ;). The sponson turrets are in fact nosecones from model plane kits. I bought a bag of nosecones from ebay for a couple of quid, most useful. I’m going to mount heavy flamers on the front, mainly because I’m running low on bolters heh. I’ll magentize them so if I ever do start playing and want to swap them out I can.

The hull will extend across the top of the trackguards behind the sponson turrets, which will hold it all together better. Then I’ll detail the side of the skirts with access flaps and we should be getting there.

Project Overview

For my Praetorians I wanted a suitably styled tank. After rummaging around for a bit I ended up in WW2 Russia (as you do). Their stuff seemed to be suitably old school without me having to build a Mk1. The obvious choice was a KV2, which of course led me back to the ragnarok. Nifty huh?

Regarding the name, I figured since it’s technically a Leman Russ (ragnaroks had no lascannon and just heavy stubbers in the sponsons iirc) I thought it’d be nice to call it a variant pattern Leman Russ. Naming it after Bromhead seemed fitting.

The Chimeras, when I design them, will be Chard pattern. Then all the tanks in the army will be numbered after the serial numbers of the rourke’s drift VC winners as a little nod to the army’s roots.
