Obviously I’m a modeller, so the idea of playing X-Wing using purely pre-made pre-painted models didn’t really do it for me. I’ve hunted around for suitable proxies and bases I could use for models. Contemplated the micromachines stuff, but they just don’t look good enough. And of course there’s the official FFG models but the idea of taking a knife to a Falcon makes me nervous :).

Then on a forum someone mentioned The Works were selling off Revell Pocket Easy Kit things. So I went and had a look, and whilst several of the kits were no use, the Falcon kit was pretty close to size. It’s 1/241 instead of the FFG 1/270, but it’s pretty close. And since they were only a fiver a bought one. Brought it home, chopped it up a little, liked it, so went back and bought another three!

Here’s what I did with the first. A pretty standard central cockpit mod. And then I painted it in a vaguely Stellar Envoy pattern. Since FFG don’t sell spare bases for some reason I knocked one up, not subtle but it’ll suffice for now until a more stylish alternative presents itself.

I think the camera was tilted slightly, it’s only a cm or so in the real world. And since I won’t be doing any as a standard YT-1300 I think it’ll be just dandy.
