Praetorian Medusa

The second in the line of Harness pattern artillery vehicles is now ready for paint. This is a medusa, made using plumbing parts for the main weapon.

Quite happy with the end result. Not a huge fan of the skirts but that’s to hide a couple of miscast roadwheels. Had it not been for the Band of Brothers timeline I’d have ordered some more resin and cast another set but never mind. Adds a bit of variety if nothing else

Praetorian Griffon

Another part of June’s build, the Griffon artillery. This is the first of my Harness pattern vehicles, another one is in development.

I decided to use the FW thudd gun rather than a traditional single shot mortar. Just preferred the look and when the gun shield fitted the gap in my vehicle I new it was destiny!

I tried to get a more WW2 feel for these, I think they look slightly Wespe with the open tracks and big metal guard.

Praetorian Griffon

I started the basilisk a good few months ago, but never really settled on the weapon itself. Finally decided to combine the chassis with a forgeworld thudd gun I bought from Warhammer World on my trip there last year.

The combination is designed to represent a griffon mortar, I think the visual works quite well, nice balance. The armour plate just happened to fit the gap nicely too. I’ve been working on a loader for this, but I’ll probably paint it up as it stands and add him later.

Noticed after taking the photo one of the handles from the drivers hatch has gone awol, will replace that before priming.

Planning a medusa on the same template, using a rather cool plumbing joint I picked up at B&Q.

Tracked and ready to roll

After the chimeras I had run out of tracks, well single tracks anyway and I didn't want to mess about trying to cut up longer ones. So I got some ordered and got on with the rest of this. However now they've arrived I wanted to start this log.

The design is based loosely on the wespe and hummel, but only loosely since I didn't actually look at any photos before putting this together, just dove in.

The gun shield stands just slightly higher than the top of the chimera, but the main body is much lower. I was thinking it would be like the m110 (and I'm sure many other spgs) in that the driver would stick his head out the hatch to drive.

Lots of details to add, and I still need to sort out the gun and mounts. I have them made, but the gun refuses to sit straight and I think I'll have to redrill the mounts in the support. Which is annoying, since it's too big for my pin vice and I end up using my power drill!

Very happy with the design though. It looked god awful before I added the tracks (why I hadn't posted the log until now!) but I think it works now. And the centre bit echoes the chimeras, which is exactly the point so they feel like part o the same army.

I would start a second to use as a griffon, but I'm all out of big road wheels now, and will be for a while until I've bought another five chimera kits

Project Overview

As I get closer to splitting out my praetorians I’m adding in more and more vehicles for them. Already the two chimeras are done, and the hellhound and command chimera are underway. So I thought it was time for some heavy artillery.
