Didn't work, the results were ok but it didn't really fit scale wise. So I've switched to cadian bodies with pig iron heads and some extra doohickies.

Anyway, a bunch of shaved headed, collar wearing nutjobs. Sounds good to me. A lot of the collars need work at the moment, and of course they could do with arms. But the idea is there. As usual.

It now has hatches, some exhaust work detail at the back, stowage, of course skirts with hinges and the like. Rivets too, bought a new punch though it's a bit naff, will look into alternatives. Just noticed this second someone's nicked one of my rivets. I swear you can't put anything down in this place, will have to replace that.

Decided not to go with a secondary weapon, heavy bolter or storm bolter. I like the low profile and didn't really want to alter the shape. I'm happy with how it looks. What is surprising is how well a battlecannon looks in that slot, so perhaps a future version might be on the cards. For now, I'm off to sculpt some Praetorians and stick this project in the "waiting to be painted" pile. Tis a big pile.

I want to add some skirts onto the track guards. Not full height, about a third of the height. Just saves me having to detail the full area, and will make it look slightly more substantial.

Lots of details to add to the top, but it's started. I have a little pile of bits ready to go on as well. Unfortunately can't add rivets until I replace my now expired leather punch. I guess they're not designed for punching plasticard.

Getting there. And actually enjoying coming back to the hobby so that's all good.

I was trying to find a style which I could do quickly (and hence painlessly, to try and encourage me to paint a few), but still get reasonable results. I sprayed with my army's two main colours, red and sand. Then the red got a dark brown wash, the sand a lighter brown wash. I've never really got the hang of drybrushing large areas, always end up with streaks. What I did this time was drybrush with a slightly wet brush. Not sure if there's a name for it. It ended up as something of a cross between stippling and drybrushing, and I'm really happy with the effects. Especially so on the sand sections. I did this in snakebite leather, graveyard earth, then a proper drybrush in bleached bone to get the details. The red was done in dark flesh, then drybrushed in a dark flesh/blood red mix. Could do with going slightly brighter on the next tank I think.

All the metallic is flat aluminium tamiya paint.  Quite like the finish of that. I tried to add a few chips and scratches where I thought they should be. Not sure if the result is good or not. The proper metal bits where then washed with shadow black (hands up who still has the original ink box? *raises hand*). 

To finish off I did the tracks and the dozer blade with tamiya's weathering stuff. It's like makeup as far as I can tell, you use this little applicator jobbie. But I like the effect, and gives the tracks some depth.

Still need to add army markings, but I've not decided how I'm going to label my tanks, or indeed where the markings will go. I can do that later though. 

So I'm calling this finished for now, and moving it to the completed projects page. Hurrah.
