Helmet exterior complete

The outside of the helmet is now complete. The inside still needs some extra padding and then the fans and voice changer adding, but it’s starting to look like a stormtrooper now!

Happy with how the aerators came out too.

An update

Long time no update. But I’ve not been slacking on the stormtrooper, though project time is less now I’m married (who’d thunk it?). Really happy with how it’s going. The arms, chest/back, hands and thighs are pretty much complete. Gluing right now are the snaps for the ab/kidney plate to fasten them together. Then I need to replace the temporary velcro on the groin/butt plates with snaps and the torso is complete. Also started the first shin.

The helmet is getting there. Lens sorted, grille behind the frown sorted, most of the interior padding is sorted though I need to finish that off. I’ve also bought a cheap voice changer and a couple of fans which are mid cable. And in the nature of this site I scratch built my aerators, which when painted up gloss black and given a metal mesh cover will do for the casual fan, which is the target audience.

And here’s the big box of bits. Lots still to do but definitely moving along. I’m also shopping for mannequins so it doesn’t have to live in a plastic crate. If anyone knows where I can get a cheap one please do let me know.

Progress

It’s going fairly slowly, but that’s because I’m taking my time, I want this to work out well. I’m not going for movie-authentic and certainly not aiming to joing the 501st, but I want it to look good and ‘be’ a stormtrooper to the average geek on the street. Which includes myself.

The helmet is getting there, all screwed and glued. I’ve started painting and attached the black comms thingy at the front. Cut the trim around the edge but it’s not glued in place yet. Still need to cut the brow trim. Some padding inside, but I’m still waiting on the ebay seller to ship me my lenses. Once those arrive I’ll pad them first to make sure I can keep my glasses on when I don the helmet. Then I’ll pad the back to keep it all sturdy.

Arm assembly is under way, the shoulder is currently taped to the bicep, but bicep and forearm are strapped up. I’ve just ordered some webbing material to snap the bicep to the shoulder, then I’ll repeat with the other side.

So yeah, progress.

Stormtrooping

Stormtrooper is coming along. here’s some in progress photos:

I’ve now got both forearms ready, one bicep, one thigh and most of the helmet. Helmet stills needs quite a bit of work though. Begun sorting out the strapping for the arms, that’s fairly simple. Oh and the boots have had three coats of paint.

Still to do: calves, the other thigh and bicep, finish the helmet, get it all attached. But all in all progress is being made and it’s really good fun!

Ok so this happened:

Somehow I appear to have purchased a stormtrooper armour kit. It’s not one of the uber expensive ones, but it’s still pretty cool looking and I reckon it’ll be fun to assemble. I’ll do my best to keep this place up to date so you can see it evolve.
